Movie Synopsis
A privileged urban teen struggles to learn an important life lesson after her family fall on hard times and move to her grandparents’ farm in order to get back on their feet. Whitney Brown (Sammi Hanratti) was raised in the lap of luxury; her parents (Aidan Quinn and Brooke Shields) gave her everything a child could ever want. But when the economic climate takes a turn for the worst, the well-to-do family must find a new place to live. Initially dejected by the slow pace of rural life, Whitney starts to perk up after befriending a majestic Gypsy Vanner horse named Odd Job Bob on a ranch owned by cantankerous Dusty (Kris Kristofferson) — whose connection to her family is stronger than she suspects. It isn’t long before the change of scenery, the quality family time, and the idyllic days spent with her new equine friend allow Whitney the opportunity to gain a greater appreciation for nature and to understand the importance of occasionally stepping back to put your life in perspective.

Sammi Hanratty Gets Green in ‘Whitney Brown’ By Ashley Terrill || November 17, 2011
Making her way from the small screen—with roles on The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and Pushing Daisies—to the big screen in The Greening of Whitey Brown, Sammi Hanratty stars along side one of America’s most beloved models-turned-actresses, Brooke Shields. In the film, Hanratty plays a popular teen who loses her high school crown when her family faces financial hardship, forcing them to leave the city.
ELLEgirl caught up with the ascending actress to talk about her love for horses, how she avoids cliques, and why she stands tall against bullying.
ELLE Girl (EG): How does your life mimic your character’s life?
Sammi Hanratty (SH): Well, it’s funny, because right after the movie, I ended up moving away to more of a small town. I had been living in L.A. before. It feels like more of a small town because everybody’s close and there are a lot of farms. I’m close to a lot of nature, like beaches and mountains. It’s very peaceful there.

Hanratty, who hails from Scottsdale, Ariz., gives an inspired performance that is refreshingly genuine as opposed to those of more well-known young actresses. The heart and soul of Hanratty’s talent is her enthusiasm, and she approaches the character of Whitney Brown with plenty of precisely that, earning kudos for – if nothing else – her vivaciousness.

Just as was scheduled, Sammi attended the world premiere of her movie The Greening of Whitney Brown in New York City last night, and some pictures of that have been added to the gallery.
